Wimmer, Harry - Adventures in Cello Country - Book 1E: Meet Tex Neek - Illustrated by Shirley Givens - Arioso Press
While enjoying a wide-ranging career as a cello soloist and teacher, Harry Wimmer has never lost sight of the important area of beginning teaching, which remains close to his heart. He was co-author with his wife, the renowned violinist and teacher Shirley Givens, of her highly-successful Adventures in Violinland, which has reached a staggering 24 volumes. Throughout the years, Harry Wimmer's companion method, Adventures in Cello Country, has been honed by succeeding generations of young cellists. Now he has finally been persuaded to send these books out into the world, in the hope that they will fall into the hands of new bright-eyed young cellists.
Book 1E, Meet Tex Neek, the cello-totin' cowboy This is a string crossing game with an American Wild West theme. The technical aim is to achieve clean, clear string crossing through exercises presented in a graded order. Young cellists receive these exercises in the form of messages and clues, and then plot their progress on a trail map until they reach Tex Neek's hideaway and receive an award. There are copious illustrations on "cowboy and Indian" themes by Shirley Givens and Grandpa Fred Givens.
